Mark 1:35 In the morning, while it was still very dark, he got up and went out to a deserted place, and there he prayed.
I admit that I struggle with following Jesus’ rhythm of intense work and intentional refreshment and rest. I intuitively know that there is profound power in this rhythm. When I have engaged in this practice, the balance has moved my spirit from an intuition about how things should be to helping God make them a reality. And yet, I still struggle with embracing this rhythm. What we hear about this holy way of being and how it informed Jesus’ ministry is an authoritative spiritual direction for us.
Be conscious of this today. Do the works you must, but also be alone with yourself—and with God too.
