WEDNESDAY, October 13

Matthew 10:26 So have no fear of them; for nothing is covered up that will not be uncovered, and nothing secret that will not become known.

Think about the shape of your life at the present. What are you afraid of? Even though we may not be wiped away by a hurricane or succumb to a deadly virus, we all face fears along our path: an illness, the death of a loved one, the end of a relationship. It’s natural to be afraid, but Christ reminds us that fear is overcome by loving him with all our heart. Nothing another person can do to you can destroy you.

I think that I quit being afraid when I found meaning for my life. I worked as a teacher and school principal during a period of time when I did not value myself. I believed that I could be happy by pleasing others. I thought I was somehow inferior and allowed others to mistreat me.

One day I woke up and said “Enough.” We really cannot give love to others that we don’t already have for ourselves. Since then, I have tried to live as Christ commands, first loving myself and then loving others.

MOVING FORWARD: Do you love and respect yourself enough?
