WEDNESDAY, February 13

Psalm 119:97 Oh, how I love your law! All the day long it is in my mind.

I love your law. The more you read from Psalm 119, the bolder this statement becomes. The law is called sweeter than honey and more valuable than gold.

I must confess to you: I feel a little dishonest reading this psalm. I don’t often think of God’s ways as sweeter than honey or more valuable than gold. But I cannot escape the reality that God’s people have sung this psalm for ages. There is wisdom in trying to learn how to love the law the way the psalmist does.

Today’s verse might even provide a hint: I love your law! It is my meditation all day long. If our goal is to learn to love God’s law, the first step may be to spend more time with it. Absence can make the heart grow fonder, but Presence can make the soul grow stronger.

MOVING FORWARD: Consider adding ten minutes to your quiet time this week to read scripture.
