Matthew 13:52 [Jesus] said to them, “Therefore every scribe who has been trained for the kingdom of heaven is like the master of a household who brings out of his treasure what is new and what is old.”
There are old watchtowers in Europe that have spiral stairways with windows at different levels. As you go up, you come on a window that looks out in the same direction as the one below, and you are apt to say, “I have seen this view before!” But that is wrong; you have looked in that direction before, but it is a different view because you are higher.
So with the Seasons of the church year as they come around. They are never the same; because we are higher up, we can see farther. What a change in most of us and in our world since last [year]! How can it be the same with us this year? We have suffered; we ought to be more compassionate, more noble. Life is giving us another view, another chance at the great experience of preparing ourselves for Jesus.
