Mark 4:40 [Jesus] said to them, “Why are you afraid? Have you still no faith?”
And then, on the evening of the very day they learn all this from Jesus himself—just as they are situating themselves in the boat, a storm blows up on the Sea of Galilee. They are scared for their lives. It isn’t that they haven’t been listening to what Jesus says to them about faith. It’s just that faith is closely aligned to fear and awe. Jesus, in rebuking the wind and stilling the storm, teaches them the difference between being afraid (not having courage) and having faith (knowing the awe of God). Their fear becomes awe of God’s power, and the disciples of Jesus continue on their journey of faith.
MOVING FORWARD: Sit in a garden or park; listen to the sounds of nature and breathe in God’s peace.
