THURSDAY, May 13                  Ascension Day

Ephesians 1:16 I do not cease to give thanks for you as I remember you in my prayers.

What is in a thank-you? Like other actions we take in life, a thank-you is multi-layered. We are not required to say thank you, but most of us cringe at the thought of never saying thank you! We were raised to be grateful; perhaps we were even raised to be kind.

Saying thank you is a choice, just like saying “I’m sorry” or “I love you anyway.” To say thank you, or to give thanks, is to put out into the world your gratitude because of the choice someone made. Perhaps the choice benefits you, or perhaps the choice makes you happy. Perhaps you merely see the good in the choice.

When you wish for more love to find a home in your heart, save a spot for gratitude and for remembrance. Remembering gives power to an event or action because you care enough to hold the moment in memory. The next time you have the opportunity to thank someone in a situation where verbal gratitude might be implied or unnecessary, I urge you to say it anyway. Add another memory of happiness to the world.

MOVING FORWARD: Surprise someone with a thank-you note.
