SUNDAY, June 13                  3 Pentecost

2 Corinthians 5:17 So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new!

The word reset—once meant to reboot a computer system to an earlier setting—now is used in everyday parlance. We reset companies or metrics or communities after a difficult situation.

But what if we could “reset” ourselves? The truth is that we can. Today’s passage tells us that, because of Christ, we can become new. Think about it: new. Different. Better. Fully remodeled, shiny, clean, glowing.

Fairly often, I need a reset. Just an hour ago, in a conversation, I indulged in self-centeredness. I’d like to reset that conversation and my response.

In Romans 6:11, Paul tells us to reckon ourselves dead to sin, with reckon meaning to calculate or conclude. Likewise, we can reckon ourselves new creations not because of our moral efforts but because of Jesus, who pressed the reset button for the universe.

MOVING FORWARD: What aspect of your life needs to be reset? Ask Jesus for intercession and help.
