FRIDAY, May 14

Psalm 85:10-11 Mercy and truth have met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other. Truth shall spring up from the earth, and righteousness shall look down from heaven.

Idealization of the future can be dangerous. Add that to the list of obstacles that stand in the way of wholehearted and meaningful love. When we dwell too much on what our lives could look like if everyone would do the right things, so much passes right in front of our faces. Look too hard into how love might look to your grandchildren tomorrow and miss the love shown by your children today.

Do you wonder how righteousness could possibly kiss peace when we keep them so far apart? It is today’s duty to bring them closer together. There is no future without the toil of today. If we do not cultivate our steadfast love as it wants to pour out of us now, righteousness will have nothing good to look down on.

It’s exactly as the saying goes: the future is now. Righteousness and peace will kiss each other in the future because they must do so now. Truth will spring up from the ground when we nurture it so that it can grow and we may reap enough to share.

GIVING BACK: How can you nurture truth and love?
