Philippians 2:5-7a Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God as something to be exploited, but emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, being born in human likeness.
Radical folk musician Seth Martin writes about his white male privilege: “My job is to listen more and build bridges, and then get out of the way.” For a while, the fact that God chose to be born into the body of a man was something I had a hard time dealing with—why choose that privilege? But perhaps God is demonstrating to us an extremely clear example of how someone born into relative societal power—not to mention cosmic power—can choose downward mobility to the point of being executed as an enemy of the state.
MOVING FORWARD: How do you feel about the idea of privilege in your life, in your community, and in the world?
Today the Church remembers Holy Cross Day.
