1 Thessalonians 5:8-9 But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, and put on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet the hope of salvation. For God has destined us not for wrath but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.
I imagine it hovering over us like the remembrance of a warm embrace from someone loved but seen no longer. Maybe the love of this breastplate makes us feel lighter, like the weight of a wrong forgiven and a burden lifted. The jewels of it sparkle with the soul-stirring refreshment of treasured memories, all golden sun and happiness.
Strapping this faith and love to our chests as we go out from our homes into the world can also feel a lot like the memory of the cross of salvation, carried through the streets of Jerusalem long ago—for you and for me.
MOVING FORWARD: As you leave your home today, remind yourself and those you love to put on the breastplate of faith and love.
