WEDNESDAY, May 15

Colossians 2:6-7 As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.

Could it be that when we pray in order to get stuff, the power of our prayers is not so much in the asking as it is in the acknowledging the power of the One we bow before? Maybe prayer is a tool to prepare us to receive, an acknowledgment of the Giver’s power to give—and to offer thanksgiving to the Giver.

This is my prayer today: I come to You, O God, acknowledging that every good and perfect gift comes from you. You are able and willing and have proven that you don’t stop giving when we stop asking—you don’t even wait for us to ask. You give abundantly more than what we can ask or imagine. You enable me to do all things through Jesus, who gives me the strength I need to do what I have been made to do. Thank you for picking up my slack and taking the load off my back when I cast my cares on you. Thank you for delight in your will and the ways the desires of my heart flow from your hand. Amen.

MOVING FORWARD: Do you need to forgive someone or be forgiven? What’s stopping you?
