THURSDAY, May 16

Luke 6:46 Why do you call me “Lord, Lord,” and do not do what I tell you?

My mother was a biscuit-making master—they looked and tasted good. The goodness and the prettiness came both from the ingredients and her process. Baking things well has a lot to do with the make-up and the work-out of the dough, knowing exactly the right amount of flour and elbow grease to put into the process.

Good bakers know exactly how much kneading is required before they shape and bake an item. When the bread or the biscuits are ready, the baker instinctively knows, and everyone at the table partakes in the baker’s delight.

What good does it do to hear my words and do nothing with them? Jesus asks his disciples. Good instruction is good when it is put to use. Unless the ingredients are mixed together, the bread can never rise or reach perfection.

MOVING FORWARD: Learn a new cookie or biscuit recipe this week. Share your baked goods with someone you love.
