THURSDAY, July 16                           William White

John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life. Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

From the Archives: August 6, 1945

“Inasmuch as ye did it…ye did it unto me.” Man judges the outside and can be deceived. God searches the heart. Man’s pardon can be bought and sometimes must be bought. God gave his son.

Perhaps you don’t buy indulgences. But are you sure you are free of the mistake of setting up people’s opinions as your Pardoner? You can buy public opinion; you can deceive it. If you fear it, if you dread the consequences of disobeying it—in brief, if you worship it—you break the first commandment.

They say. What say they? Let them say! God has spoken unto us.

MOVING FORWARD: What role does public opinion have in your life? Is it rightly placed?
