MONDAY, September 16

1 Corinthians 1:18 For the message about the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

Years ago, I overheard a conversation between two engineers, one a Christian and the other, an Animist. The Christian asked, “Do you really believe that spirits live in rocks and trees and rivers and such?” The Animist asked, “Do you really believe that a man was killed and then later came back to life?” A non-Christian at that time, I thought both of them sounded fantastical and naïve.

And then, I met Christ in his followers. In experiencing their love and support, I encountered the Living God. In the eyes of a soul-friend, I saw Jesus looking back at me.

All of us have the ability to be Christ to another—to be present when people are hurting, to lend a hand or weep with those facing hard times, to laugh and sing with those experiencing joy. We are Christ’s hands and feet in the world when we commit ourselves to seeing others as Jesus sees us and loving how he loves.

MOVING FORWARD: Do you remember the first story you learned about Jesus? Tell that story to someone today.
