FRIDAY, May 17

Colossians 3:4 When Christ who is your life is revealed, then you also will be revealed with him in glory.

The Caterpillar and the Polliwog by Jack Kent begins, “Caterpillars aren’t like other folks.” As folks and other animals get older, they get bigger—but not caterpillars. They turn into something else, and turning into something else is “not a thing that just anybody can do.”

Paul tells the Colossians that as followers of Christ, they will no longer live and look like their old selves. As they leave old lifestyles and habits behind and begin to follow the ways of Jesus, they are growing into something new.

At birth, caterpillars do not resemble their parents, but they grow into their parents’ likeness. Many human babies often look more like one parent or the other until they mature. For our entire lifetimes, we are growing, becoming, being shaped into the image of the One who made us, so that we may become as one. Thanks be to God.

MOVING FORWARD: Make a list of ways you have changed in the last year or two. Where do you see God in those changes?
