SATURDAY, January 18          Confession of Saint Peter

Acts 4:11-12 This Jesus is “the stone that was rejected by you, the builders; it has become the cornerstone.” There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among mortals by which we must be saved.

The cornerstone is the most important stone in a structure because a builder aligns every other stone—from the deepest foundation to the highest tower—by this one stone. Jesus is rejected by the religious leaders of his day because they have aligned themselves to the wrong cornerstone. They are consumed by and with the ways of this world.

Just as Jesus is rejected by the world, we must reject the world to follow him. When we align ourselves to Jesus, we turn from fear, greed, and lust for power. We center our lives on and around the cornerstone of unconditional love, grace, and humble servanthood that embraces the cross. Thanks be to God for this gift of salvation.

MOVING FORWARD: Who is the cornerstone in your office? In your faith community? In your social group? Commit those people to your prayer list.
