SUNDAY, October 18                           20 Pentecost

1 Thessalonians 1:2 We always give thanks to God for all of you and mention you in our prayers.

More than twenty years ago, our baby grandson was diagnosed with stage-four neuroblastoma—a cancerous growth the size of a soda can in his fourteen-month-old abdomen. In addition to medical treatment, we rallied the prayer troops—in our church and around the world, as my husband reached out to all the extended family he knew through his genealogy research. A monk friend sat in our grandson’s hospital room for hours, silently praying.

As I write this, our grandson is an active young adult with a job and a life—in large part, I believe, because of the dedicated, faithful life of prayer Paul models for us in his letters.

MOVING FORWARD: How do you model a life of prayer? How has prayer changed your life?
