THURSDAY, February 18                           Martin Luther

Psalm 37:4 Take delight in the LORD, and he shall give you your heart’s desire.

Once I attended a retreat led by James Finley, psychotherapist and author of Entering the Mind of Christ. With his Irish humor, he teased the retreatants, saying, “You know, you really are a bunch of odd ducks. Others are out enjoying a beautiful day or watching a game or some such thing, and here you are on a retreat.”

I realize my interest in attending retreats, reading books about spirituality, and writing on these topics makes me “an odd duck,” but these are desires planted in my heart that bring me delight.

I was sharing with a friend how much I enjoy writing, and she said, “That’s God’s good pleasure for you.” In the movie Chariots of Fire, Olympian Eric Liddell says, “When I run, I feel God’s pleasure.” When we love God, God plants desires in our hearts and is happy to fulfill them.

MOVING FORWARD: What is your heart’s desire? Are you giving it the space and attention God wants?
