MONDAY, March 18

John 4:38 I sent you to reap that for which you did not labor. Others have labored, and you have entered into their labor.

Life is a group project. I wouldn’t be doing what I’m doing without family, friends, teachers, and mentors. Where would I be without strangers who have grown and harvested my food, kept me healthy, built the house I live in, and invented the computer on which I write these words?

Jesus reminds the disciples that the Kingdom of God is likewise not a solitary venture. God has prepared the fields, and the disciples are joining in a harvest that has already begun.

It’s comforting and challenging to realize that as disciples of Jesus, we are part of this work in God’s fields. Sowing love, reaping faith, growing the kingdom—we enter into the labor of Jesus and all the disciples, known and unknown, those who have gone before us and those who will come after.

MOVING FORWARD: Who are you working beside in your part of the harvest? How can you encourage them in their holy work?
