Genesis 45:26a, 28 And they told him, “Joseph is still alive. He is even the ruler over all the land of Egypt.” Israel said, “Enough! My son Joseph is still alive. My son Joseph is still alive. I must go and see him before I die.”
With an ordained friend, we shared eucharist one evening. As we said the prayers and remembered the beautiful story of Jesus’ love for us, Sarah cried years’ worth of tears. Summer stretched into fall, and she began to experience visible peace and comfort. Watching her come back to herself and to her place in the kingdom was beautiful.
In our passage, Jacob discovers his beloved child is alive and well. This news is all that is needed to restore his spirit, to lift and encourage him to be Israel once more.
