Luke 24:39 Look at my hands and my feet; see that it is I myself. Touch me and see; for a ghost does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have.
Sometimes we might struggle with our belief in the truth of the resurrected Jesus. It doesn’t fit into our rational worldview. The risen Christ wasn’t so straightforward then, as sometimes he was flesh and bone, while other times, he appeared inside locked rooms.
We should take comfort that even the disciples need a bit of convincing. Jesus takes on the challenge, and he loves them even as he shows them his hands and his side. It’s the same for us. When we doubt or struggle, Jesus is there. He is in the sacraments. He is in the church. Again and again, perhaps in ways we don’t understand, Jesus shows up and loves us.
MOVING FORWARD: Reflect on this quotation from author and theologian Frederick Buechner: “Doubts are the ants in the pants of faith. They keep it awake and moving.”
