MONDAY, June 18

Matthew 17:20 For truly I tell you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, “Move from here to there,” and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.

I’ve heard the phrase, “Just have faith,” used in situations from finding a good parking place to overcoming a grave illness. “Just have faith” and things will turn out in your favor. In this calculation, it is as if faith is the missing variable in the equation of life. If we have enough of it, faith will push us over the finish line into our desired outcome—a good parking place, winning the Super Bowl, an inexplicable cure. Faith becomes one-dimensional. The problem with this approach is that life isn’t one-dimensional—and neither is God.

Faith is more than a belief or a desire. Rather, faith is about turning away from the idols and trappings of the world and opening our hearts to the living God. The more we turn toward God, the more we open ourselves to God’s impossible possibilities. It is with this kind of faith that mountains are moved, new dimensions are made known, and we are transformed!

MOVING FORWARD: Think of all the different names for God. Consider the multi-dimensional qualities that these names represent.
