Romans 4:13 For the promise that he would inherit the world did not come to Abraham or to his descendants through the law but through the righteousness of faith.
In the Old Testament, the focus of the story is on the Israelites. But, when Jesus preaches, he invites all people into God’s family. As Paul explains, when we walk with God, we become part of God’s family. There is no longer a need for a lineage or a family name to define a person.
Joseph was of the “correct” lineage, especially for Jesus to fulfill the prophecy, but that is not what made him part of God’s household. As Jesus preached, Jesus’ family consisted of students, followers, the faithful—not just blood relatives or people belonging to a certain class.
I pray that we will remember Jesus’ open arms, especially when we take the Good News out into the world.
MOVING FORWARD: Give thanks for your family of faith and especially for those who have helped father you.
