Matthew 7:16 You will know them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thorns, or figs from thistles?

I recently bought some oranges that were just beautiful—plump and round and very orange. I couldn’t wait to get home to enjoy them. I sat down to eat one, really wanting to savor it. While I was peeling this orange, I realized it didn’t smell sweet. When I put it in my mouth, there was no burst of orange juice; the pulp was dry.

The oranges from my parents’ tree are always juicy and sweet, with just the right amount of tartness. My parents talk to, nurture, and love their tree—and the fruit tastes like it. Even blindfolded, I would be able to tell the difference between an orange from my parents’ tree and one from the store.

How is your spiritual fruit? Does it look beautiful but have no taste? Does your fruit symbolize a good life filled with love and truth? Would people know your fruit?

MOVING FORWARD: What are you doing to ensure good fruit grows in your own life?
