MONDAY, December 2

Matthew 21:10 When he entered Jerusalem, the whole city was in turmoil, asking, “Who is this?”

Jesus is many things to Christians—Savior and Redeemer, the Son of God, and brother in faith. He is the Light of the World and Root of Jesse. The different names of Jesus go on and on. The one that stands out most in today’s readings may be this: the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee.

Prophets are messengers and spokespeople for God. They set forth a true word about and from God. Jesus speaks God’s word, but he does not stop there. He is the Word of God, divinity enfleshed, so that we can see and hear and touch and taste and know God in a whole new way. Jesus lives and dies and is resurrected to reveal the deepest truth about God’s being and God’s longing for relationship with us.

This is Jesus, who is both the spokesperson of God and God’s message of good news to the world.

MOVING FORWARD: When was the last time someone asked you about Jesus? What did you tell that person? What will you say next time?
