SUNDAY, February 2                  Feast of the Presentation

Malachi 3:3b And he will purify the descendants of Levi and refine them like gold and silver, until they present offerings to the LORD in righteousness.

Over and over, God in scripture says, See, I am sending my messenger. Over and over, we say, Here comes the messenger, let us kill the messenger. The messages are hard to hear. The consequences are hard to swallow.

Malachi calls the children of Israel to righteous living and explains the consequences if they do not correct themselves. Maybe the fire of purification scares us—as it should.

We must always keep in mind the importance of discerning the message and messengers of God. Love, life, justice, and compassion must inform our discernment.

MOVING FORWARD: How does compassion form your process of discernment? Share a story with us by using #ForwardDayByDay.
