John 4:47 When he heard that Jesus had come from Judea to Galilee, he went and begged him to come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death.
I can imagine that this question is racing through the royal official’s mind when he begs Jesus to heal his son. He must be anxious about his son’s condition, and his faith is shaken. Desperate and wondering if his child will live, he approaches Jesus despite the cultural and religious barriers that separated them.
In today’s epistle reading, we see Paul reminding his readers of God’s wrath, which awaits those who become “futile in their thinking” and even “senseless.” After reading these passages, I ask, “Can I live?”
However, we can learn from the faith of the royal official. When we come to Jesus, when we place all our burdens on Jesus and build our faith upon Jesus, we find life. With Jesus, we can confidently say, “I will live.”
MOVING FORWARD: Are you weary from carrying a burden? Turn it over to Jesus today.
