FRIDAY, July 2                  [Moses the Black]

Psalm 140:4 Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; protect me from the violent, who are determined to trip me up.

As I write this meditation, our nation is ablaze with the cries of racial injustice, as tens of thousands speak out on behalf of those who have been silenced by murder in a system of oppression.

I hear the cry of this psalm coming from the lips of my brothers and sisters of color, and I know that unless I do something, I am part of the problem.

The scriptures are clear: God’s heart is for the disenfranchised, the marginalized, and the poor. I am reminded of our weekly prayer of confession, especially of the things I have left undone and the times that I have not loved my neighbor as myself.

Lord, let my ears be open to the cries for justice. Guide my actions so I may help pave a pathway that is free from cords that entangle. I pray that I will not be complacent with the wicked but that my heart will break for what breaks yours. Amen.

MOVING FORWARD: Read Micah 6:8. How are you called to do justice and love kindness today?
