Romans 3:22b-24 For there is no distinction, since all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God; they are now justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.
Legend holds that Adam’s skull is buried below the cross, so beneath that spot is a comparatively uncrowded room, the Chapel of Adam. Its central feature is a crack in the rock underneath the cross, said to have opened during the earthquake following Jesus’s death. According to the legend, Jesus’s blood flowed through that crack and trickled down to the spot where Adam’s skull lay in rest.
While scripture offers no support for the legend, the idea is a visceral illustration of Christ’s blood redeeming and undoing Adam’s error, through which the original sin that causes us all to fall short of the glory of God first came into the world.
