SUNDAY, November 21         Last Sunday after Pentecost

2 Samuel 23:3-4 The God of Israel has spoken, the Rock of Israel has said to me: One who rules over people justly, ruling in the fear of God, is like the light of morning, like the sun rising on a cloudless morning, gleaming from the rain on the grassy land.

I can’t pinpoint exactly when American politics first began to fissure and split into what is today: a two-party system, blue state or red state, liberal or conservative. The list goes on and on. Perhaps it has always been split. I’m almost certain that everyone would say that their officeholder or political party is just and fair—if only the opposition could see that.

When I picture the sunrise in a beautiful, cloudless sky, I am standing on the ground of my favorite place in the world. I can see the light shine off the prairie grass still wet from the rain shower the night before. The air smells fresh, the temperature just right, and the morning brings a new day. That is a just leader.

MOVING FORWARD: Where do you find hope?
