SUNDAY, March 21                  5 Lent

John 12:24 Very truly, I tell you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains just a single grain; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.

In Texas, blue lupines, or bluebonnet flowers, offer one of the most beautiful displays of God’s handiwork. The flowers bloom in early spring and last for just a few weeks. People flock to fields to take pictures with this incredible backdrop.

Although I’m sure they would make a beautiful bouquet, picking the flowers is highly discouraged. And there is good reason: without being left to be pollinated, wilt, and die, the flowers would not germinate and come back for the next year.

Jesus teaches us that if we try to manipulate every detail in our lives, we will not be able to spring up in our appropriate season. Sometimes we have to leave the flowers in our lives and appreciate them for their time, and then we have to let them wilt and die so that they can come back even stronger the next year.

MOVING FORWARD: What do you need to let die so that new life might rise?
