Luke 4:44 So he continued proclaiming the message in the synagogues of Judea.

There’s an idea floating around that going to church doesn’t matter very much. “I can find God in a sunset,” people say. “Does God care if we go to worship?” Well, yes. God does care, at least according to the scriptures. Jesus is always going to the synagogue. He keeps the feasts, and so do his family and his followers. Even the Son of God needed to hear the scriptures taught and to take his part in teaching.

I love asking people why they go to church. People have all kinds of reasons. Sometimes they’re mundane, and sometimes they’re transformational. “I come here because this is where I remember what really matters.” “Worshiping with others reminds me I’m not alone.” “Jesus meets us here.”

My attendance is not one-hundred percent. But most of the time when I wake up and I’m not feeling it, I remember that Jesus shows me that worship is important. I never regret going to church. While gathering in person is not always possible, all the reasons for gathering online are still the same. We Christians need each other, and we need to hear the message proclaimed.

MOVING FORWARD: Commit to the holy habit of weekly worship.
