Matthew 11:30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

I pride myself on being able to pack for a ten-day trip abroad in one carry-on. However, this kind of packing magic makes my carry-on and backpack very heavy.

I thank God for people who help me put my carry-on in the overhead bin. I’m not sure if they do it to be helpful or because they just want to get me out of the aisle. When I am finally in my seat and my luggage is stowed, I feel relief. I can rest—and I often fall asleep.

We are so blessed to be able to take our heavy burdens of past hurts, insecurities, debts, racism, phoniness, fear, hate, disappointments, anxiety, and all that keeps us awake at night and turn it over to Jesus—Jesus, who offers us rest and gentleness. We can go to Jesus, check our baggage, and then rest in him.

MOVING FORWARD: Is it time to do some fall cleaning? What can you do to lighten the burden in your closets or other storage areas?
