THURSDAY, November 22      Thanksgiving Day (USA)

1 Timothy 2:1-2 First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone, for kings and all who are in high positions, so that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and dignity.

It has been my practice to pray for the leaders of the nation by name each week in the Prayers of the People during Sunday liturgy. For me, that means praying for Donald, our president, and Matthew, our governor.

On any given Sunday, I suppose about half the congregation is glad we do this and half wish we would not.

As a Christian, this passage from the first letter to Timothy encourages me to pray, no matter my political preference. Notice we are called to pray, not for changed hearts but so we might lead quiet and peaceable lives in godliness and dignity. That’s a goal we can all support.

MOVING FORWARD: How will you pray for your elected officials this week?

PRAY for the Dioceses of Kasai and Mbuji Mayi (Congo)
