Psalm 106:2 Who can declare the mighty acts of the LORD or show forth all his praise?

When I responded to the call to the priesthood, I had to take several steps before I was ordained. The same process continues more or less today for most prospective clergy. It goes something like this: Meet with your priest, then the vestry, and next the bishop. Then more meetings with diocesan committees and appointments with a psychologist and a psychiatrist. For the seminary-bound, there are applications to fill out and financial matters to consider. The next three years are filled with lectures and exams. Students’ stress level is always high. After graduation, there are more meetings and appointments—and God willing—ordination to the diaconate and six months later, ordination to the priesthood.

When I was in my early twenties, I was called to join an intentional community and work in the inner-city of Washington, D.C., for a year. I spent that year renovating townhouses that were then purchased by low- to moderate-income families. I heard Jesus’s call to follow him, to declare the mighty acts of the Lord. And I got up and followed.

MOVING FORWARD: How will you declare the mighty acts of the Lord today?
