SATURDAY, February 23

Isaiah 66:1 Thus says the Lord: Heaven is my throne and the earth is my footstool; what is the house that you would build for me, and what is my resting place?

On February 14, 1990, the Voyager I space probe photographed Earth from more than six billion kilometers away. This iconic image is known as the Pale Blue Dot, showing Earth as the tiniest of dots in a single beam of light.

Astronomer Carl Sagan gave a moving lecture at Cornell University about the photograph, reminding us of how small we are in the grand scheme of the solar system and the universe.

As best we can tell, our universe is still expanding. This is not easy to comprehend, but it is a factual, awe-inspiring reality: Existence itself is still growing.

We may be small, but God is greater than our ever-expanding universe—and yet cares so much for each of us here on this, our island home.

MOVING FORWARD: Do some Internet sleuthing and find a picture of the Pale Blue Dot. What are your impressions?
