Luke 8:39 “Return to your home, and declare how much God has done for you.” So he went away, proclaiming throughout the city how much Jesus had done for him.

Some of us don’t want to follow Jesus too closely because of the perceived cost. We fear we may have to give up our lifestyle, relationships, comfort, status, or some other pleasure, and it will be too much. It’s okay to give up some Sundays, memorize some scripture, or follow some ritual, but don’t ask me to reconcile with an enemy, pray for my political opponents, or share my possessions or possibilities with undeserving strangers.

Grateful to have his life returned, the man wants to leave home and follow Jesus, but Jesus says to stay and tell others what the Lord has done for him.

To follow Jesus is to tell others, at home and elsewhere, with your words and your living, what the Lord has done for you. It is both the cost and the reward.

MOVING FORWARD: How are you declaring the gospel of Jesus with your life?
