THURSDAY, December 24

Luke 1:76 And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High; for you will go before the Lord to prepare his ways.

I have a small John the Baptist living across the street from me. He’s seven, and he loves his neighbors. He worries about us, too. One afternoon I was returning from running errands, and winter ice patches were still hiding under a blanket of white snow, even on our wooden ramp.

Making my way up the ramp, I hit a thick spot and slid a bit. Just then, Johnny came running across the street with his large shovel in his tiny hands. For ten minutes, he dug the snow and ice off the wood, chattering all the while.

He completely cleared the path for me so I could bring home good things to the people I loved, just as John the Baptist made way for Jesus to bring the gospel. A young boy and a grown man paved the way, and both have the great joy of being named John.

MOVING FORWARD: Do you have a friend or family member who reminds you of John the Baptist? Thank them for their work and love today.
