SUNDAY, March 24                           3 Lent

1 Corinthians 10:13 No testing has overtaken you that is not common to everyone. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tested beyond your strength, but with the testing he will also provide the way out so that you may be able to endure it.

God will never give you more than you can handle. This platitude is enshrined on cards, posters, and social media. When I see it, I want to scream. I don’t believe that God gives us more than we can handle—evil does that. God does not prevent the testing. Instead, God “provides the way out so that you may be able to endure it.”

I have seen this happen—families, friends, and communities rally to provide practical help and solace in times of catastrophe. Deep reserves of faith bring people back from black holes of despair.

God provides strength beyond our strength, beyond what we could ask or imagine, for us to handle whatever testing overtakes us.

MOVING FORWARD: Who has helped you endure your own tests? Write some thank you notes today.
