1 Thessalonians 2:7 We might have made demands as apostles of Christ. But we were gentle among you, like a nurse tenderly caring for her own children.
Paul gives us a recipe for a radically different approach, much more in keeping with Jesus’ own ministry. Jesus never sought control or supremacy in the temple. Instead, he sought to inform its leadership through his teachings. In his own ministry, he focused on the needs of the people he met outside the temple courts, modeling a nurturing approach.
Because Paul followed Jesus, Paul didn’t seek power. He didn’t flaunt his status or his Roman citizenship. Instead, he sought to follow Jesus’ example, focusing on the power of love rather than the love of power.
MOVING FORWARD: How are you nurturing and nourishing the people in your life?
