1 Peter 1:8-9 Although you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and rejoice with an indescribable and glorious joy, for you are receiving the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.
Salvation also has meaning in the present. Notice how Peter frames salvation as something we are receiving—present progressive tense, as our English teachers instructed us—denoting ongoing action. Salvation is something we have already in our baptism. But it is an ongoing work, constantly being brought into perfection by God’s grace as we participate in the sacraments, study the scriptures, worship and pray with regularity, and pattern our lives after the example and teaching of Jesus.
MOVING FORWARD: How do you understand salvation? Write a couple of paragraphs and keep them in your quiet spot. Reread and rewrite as needed.
