Luke 19:2-4 A man was there named Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was rich. He was trying to see who Jesus was, but on account of the crowd he could not, because he was short in stature. So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore tree.
The gospels are full of random little details, like how tall Zacchaeus was and the exact type of tree he climbed up to see Jesus. It’s fascinating to consider how these precise details made it across the millennia to the version of Luke that you are reading right now as part of your daily prayers. A shining strand of love from a sycamore tree in Jericho two thousand years ago stretches all the way to you and me today.
