Luke 1:30 The angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.”
“Hi, Mary—I’m the Angel Gabriel, and I came to tell you that God loves you.”
The girl looked up. “I know that,” she replied.
“No—I mean, God really loves you!”
An older woman in the front row, horrified by this seemingly sacrilegious version of the story, got up and walked out. The memory of that little play has stayed with me for more than thirty years.
Seeing this story portrayed by teenagers brought a new appreciation for the vulnerability and innocent trust of the young people who said yes to God’s plan for our salvation. Perhaps it also took the fearlessness of youth to accept Gabriel’s preposterous, glorious message: God really loves you.
MOVING FORWARD: God really loves you. Sit with that thought today.
