TUESDAY, November 27

Luke 18:31-43. Immediately he regained his sight and followed [Jesus], glorifying God; and all the people, when they saw it, praised God.

I used to drive a friend of mine who is blind to the gym. This worked out for both of us: he needed a ride and I needed some accountability so that I’d actually make time to exercise. Many days we’d just walk around the track on the top of the gym and talk. Then we started walking around his neighborhood, sometimes for hours, a couple times a week. During that time we’d talk and talk about religion and girls and jobs and whatever else was on our minds.

Though my friend and I don’t agree on much, it was often by talking to him that I came to better understand myself and my beliefs. His questions often revealed surprising things about me. Jesus helps us understand the world. He opens our eyes to the truth around us: to the truth about ourselves, to the hope there is in the world, and to the reality that when things are difficult, we’re not alone in the world. We have someone to walk beside, someone to help us make sense of things. Always.
