TUESDAY, December 29                  Saint John (tr)

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he who is faithful and just will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Trying to be entirely blameless is exhausting. When we attempt this, we become unhappy and unable to accept failures or mistakes. We deceive ourselves into believing that we are something we are not—and can’t be.

God knows we mess up. God gives the gift of forgiveness, pardoning us for our sins. God wants us to come and confess our wrongs. God is not interested in punishing us. God loves us regardless of how imperfect we are—God just wants to help us do better and has come among us as Jesus to help us become our best and holiest selves.

The more we learn about God’s faithfulness, the more we see God in the faces of other people, the more we can welcome God’s forgiveness. When we learn how to be forgiven, we learn to forgive as well.

MOVING FORWARD: Are there any folks you need to make things right with before the new year begins? Do that today.
