SUNDAY, March 29                           5 Lent

John 11:25-26 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?”

Years ago, I was rector for a large parish in Mozambique. This particular story takes place after the busyness of Holy Week services, during a long, joyful Easter morning service with dancing, singing, praying, preaching, and readings—and more dancing and singing.

I looked around at the beloved community kneeling at the altar rail. The director of education next to a young orphan; a recently widowed mother beside a teenage girl; mothers with babies wrapped in their capulanas beside a young man in a wheelchair. And that was just one row of communicants.

I was struck by the thought: This. Is. It. The meaning of the resurrection and the new life offered for all—this is the gift of belief in Jesus for all. This is God’s love in Christ for us: to live in unity, joy, and peace. This. Is. It.

MOVING FORWARD: What did you see the last time you saw the kingdom of God come near?
