MONDAY, March 29                  Monday in Holy Week

Isaiah 42:9 See, the former things have come to pass, and new things I now declare; before they spring forth, I tell you of them.

Flower bulbs are popular to plant in early spring. Once the plants are established, they often go through a dramatic cycle with the changes in seasons. In the spring, they sprout and flower. In the summer, after dropping their flowers and seed pods, they bask in the sunlight, collecting resources to store in their bulbs for the winter. At the end of summer, their leaves die off, leaving an empty spot in the ground through the winter, until spring and their next flowering.

In our lives, we experience similar cycles. There may be times when it seems like everything has been taken away from us, when we feel barren and hopeless. However, rather than abandoning the ground, we do well to remember the gathering of resources we have already done. We have learned from our experiences, and God has given us many teachings to follow. As long as we continue to walk in faith, we know that the promise of spring, the promise of Easter, will come to fruition, and our lives will be resurrected.

MOVING FORWARD: If you are in a barren place, write these words from Isaiah on a notecard as a reminder of the coming spring and new growth.
