SATURDAY, May 29                           Ember Day

2 Corinthians 5:6-7 So we are always confident; even though we know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord—for we walk by faith, not by sight.

Every time things don’t go as I plan, I tell myself that I am walking by faith and not by sight. It makes me feel better on a few levels and is a reminder that it’s okay not to see everything coming!

While I don’t necessarily see that our bodies, groaning and moaning and grinding with the pure humanity of themselves, are as big of a hindrance as scripture contends, I agree with the concept: everything in our life is an extension of our body. The cars we drive are operated by our hands and our feet and our eyes. Our cooking involves hands and mouths and noses. Our jobs, shopping, being with friends are all extensions of the body. When we are naturally caught up in thinking that all of our cancelled concerts and vacations will be the end of us, I push back with the encouragement to walk by faith rather than by sight. Our eyes will not lead us to heaven or God. That is faith’s job.

MOVING FORWARD: Close your eyes as you pray and meditate today. What new sight do you discover?
