John 21:17 [Jesus] said to him the third time, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter felt hurt because he said to him the third time, “Do you love me?” And he said to him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep.”
Jesus reminds Peter that being a good shepherd means dying for the sheep. Jesus tells Peter that he will have another moment in which to make a fateful decision—and the next time, Peter will make a different decision. Peter is being raised up by Jesus, restored, and sent out.
MOVING FORWARD: Even when you don’t feel capable or prepared or holy enough, Jesus is calling you to follow. It’s time to move forward from your past and ask God what is in store for your future.
