THURSDAY, August 29

1 Kings 3:25 The king said, “Divide the living boy in two; then give half to the one, and half to the other.”

Even the great King Solomon had days when he was just managing administrative details. Maybe he kept office hours during which his subjects could bring their arguments and complaints. On this day, two women have brought a tricky problem to the king. It’s a case of she said/she said, and the king must figure out who is telling the truth.

Solomon’s wisdom has been world-renowned for thousands of years, earning the reputation from episodes like this. We can learn something for our own lives from Solomon’s judgment over the two women: Real love always wins. It always makes or finds a way.

Life can be confusing, and evidence is often conflicting. We may even find ourselves in opposition to each other. But rest assured, the love of God can be distinguished from self-serving, pseudo-love by means of wisdom and testing.

MOVING FORWARD: Who is a wise friend who always gives you good council? Do something special for the person as a way of saying thanks.
